The Jehovah's Witness Leaders
Charles Taze Russell
-
He was born on February 16, 1852 in Allegehney, Pa.
-
Was troubled by church doctrines relating to Hell.
-
Became exposed to William Miller's ( Second Adventist movement)
in 1870 which included the teaching that Christ would return to earth in
October of 1843. When that failed to take place, subsequent dates
were set; all of which were failures. Thus, we can see the term "false
prophet" at the root stage.
-
The Millerites gave Russell (a.) a religious denial of Hell, and (b)
stimulating studies in eschatology (the end times prophecies).
-
Founded the International Bible Students Association which led to the
publishing subsidiary, Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society, on December 18,1884.
(Note Millennial Dawn and Studies In The Scriptures).
-
Published The Divine Plan of the Ages in in 1886. This projected that
"the end times started in 1799 and that Christ returned in 1874.
He also taught that Armegedon would take place in 1914. The date
was changed to 1915, when Armegedon failed to take place at the first projected
time.
-
The Watch Tower's national headquarters established in Brooklyn, New
York in 1909.
-
Beacme legally seperated from his wife.
- All his prohecies failed.
-
Died on October 31,1916
Joseph (Judge) Rutherford
-
Assumed control of the Society in 1916.
-
Reworked Russell's chronologies and set dates of 1918 and later, 1925,
as the Armegedon dates.
-
"Beth Sarim" ( house of princes ) built in San Diego, California.
This was to house the expected resurrection of King David, Samson, and
Joseph. They were expected to be in charge of a new world order.
Once again, a prohecy failed, addingRutherford to the "false prophet" list.
-
In 1931 the church and publishing organizations merged to form the present
organization. The name "Jehovah's Wt\itnesses" was adopted at that
time.
Nathan H. Knorr
-
Took over Rutherford's position in 1942.
-
Most noted for overseeing the completion of The New World Translation
of the Bible in 1961.
-
He worked with Fredrick Franz,Albert Schroeder, and George Gangas on
this project.
-
Of the four men, only Franz had any exposure to the biblical languages
-- having studied Greek for two years at the University of Cincinati.
He was self taught in Hebrew and chaired the comitee.
Fredrick Franz
-
Assumed leadership of the Jehovah's Witnesses in 1977.
-
Wrote "Life Everlasting in the Freedom of the Sons of God", in 1966.
This work determined that "the seventh period of a thousand
years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975 CE (Christian Era
)." * note - pg 29 if you find and read it.
-
This led to a major event of expectation by the organization's members,
which included the sales of their homes and properties, in 1974.
-
1975 passed without the expected event, and Franz became one more "false
prophet" as a result of the failed prediction.
Synopsis
The leadership of this organizaion has not shown one
iota of the types of credentials most Churches require of their leadership.
It has shown itself to be a group of rebelious people when the facts are
considered in the light of the time proven church organizations, whose
histories are founded by good Biblical foundations and practices; which
began with the church as it was established according to the Book of Acts.
While it is true that there is a small variation of Texts, between Catholic
and Protestant Bible version - nothing there can be noted as to being on
a scale of what the Jehovah's Witnesses' New World Translation of the Holy
Scriptures is teaching.
