As we continue our studies into the Genesis events, we must take a moment to reflect on the importance of what has transpired thus far.
Ge 4:25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. KJV
Eve has recognized that God had indeed forgiven them of any past sins, and that the death of Abel was an act brought about by what we could term sibling rivalry or enmity of a carnal personality toward a Godly person. Cain then, was held solely responsible for Abel's death. We can safely speculate that those first parents knew what we know today, that despite our best efforts to teach a Godly life of obedience, the lessons can easily fall on deaf ears. But there is more to be gleaned from this account too.
Strong's Exhaustive Concordance supplied us with some most significant information:
Seth = "compensation"
1) the 3rd son of Adam by Eve
1a) also 'Sheth'
Adam and Eve have been compensated for their loss of the virtuous son. He has shown them his compassion for those who suffer in life, and how, if they will but seek his will - comfort, joy and the already mentioned compensatory way of God will prevail. The timing and the decisions are always according to the will of the omnipotent , omnipresent and omniscient Father (God), but sure to take place. It took place in the land east of Eden. Consequently, another land - Nod - comes into our focus. That land was a land of castaways and fear was it not? It was also a land of exiled exiles. Do you see how we can, through our actions, cause ourselves to be farther and farther removed from God?
As the human history recorded for us in the Bible continues, what do we see? We see that a part of the Divine Plan is to assure a continuous Godly line of people, who will serve God and their fellows, so that goodness can always be available for those who want something more than the carnal way of life, which always leads to disillusionment and heartache as a mean cause.
When such events take place, do you pray honestly and sincerely so that you may find the forgiveness for your transgression, and as a result, be compensated for doing the right thing?
